Muzium dan Agenda Counter Islamophobia: Satu Analisis
Museum and The Agenda of Counter Islamophobia: An Analysis
Abstract
The biggest problem facing Muslims nowadays is religious extremism. This history began with the clash of civilizations between the West and the Muslim world. The West sees the Islamic world as a trigger the outbreak of terrorism that needs to be battled. This reaction has preceded to the beginning of the phenomenon of Islamophobia. It is acknowledged that the Muslim community, especially academia has worked hard to change this negative view through the medium of education and scientific investigation. Hence, this article aims to look at the role of museums to diminish the negative views about Islamophobia brought in by Westerners. The focus of this study is to examine the roles played by Sultan Abdullah Mosque Museum in Pekan Pahang. By emphasizing issues related to identity, religion, and globalization, the museum is seen capable to be a catalyst in addressing issues related to misunderstandings of Islam. Museums can play an important role in changing the negative images of Islamophobia through the exhibitions conducted.
Keywords: Extremism, Islamophobia, Sultan Abdullah Mosque Museum, Countering Islamophobia.
