Cultural Elements in Malaysian Paintings: A Survey
Abstract
This article aims to produce an overview of the cultural elements adapted in paintings from 1940s to 2018. The survey is conducted in the form of a timeline chronology by identifying the elements of local culture and values before the National Cultural Congress in 1971. This survey explored how the National Cultural Congress has made a tangible impact to the awareness of artists and the form of work produced. This survey also concludes that the elements of local culture and values are found instilled and will remain be the themes in the production of paintings in the future.

Abstrak
Penulisan ini adalah untuk menghasilkan satu tinjauan terhadap adaptasi elemen budaya dalam karya seni catan bermula dari tahun 1940an sehingga tahun 2018. Tinjauan dibuat dalam bentuk kronologi tahun dengan mengenalpasti elemen-elemen yang budaya dan nilai- nilai tempatan sebelum Dasar Kongres Kebudayaan (DKK) 1971. Selepas DKK, tinjauan mengupas kesan daripada DKK terhadap kesedaran pelukis dan bentuk karya yang dhasilkan. Tinjauan ini membuat kesimpulan bahawa elemen budaya dan nilai-nilai tempatan masih dan akan terus menjadi tema dalam penghasilan karya catan untuk masa akan dating.
