SENI KELARAI DAN SENI MURAL: PERTEMBUNGAN TIMUR DAN BARAT
Abstract
Aktiviti melakar atau menghiasi dinding telah bermula sejak zaman Paleolitik lagi di Malaysia. Melalui penemuan dari lukisan gua di Lenggong, Perak hinggakan ke aktiviti menghias dinding bangunan. Antara teknik hiasan dinding tradisional yang diguna adalah anyaman dan ukiran manakala terkini adalah melukis mural. Penulisan ini akan membincangkan budaya menghias dinding dan juga merungkai seni hiasan dinding tradisonal hingga seni lukisan dinding moden di negeri Perak. Memperlihatkan kelebihan hiasan ini dari sudut keindahan dan praktikal. Seperti anyaman yang telah digunakan untuk menghiasi dinding-dinding istana dan rumah Melayu. Jelas bahawa teknik anyaman Perak yang dikenali sebagai kelarai bukan sekadar untuk menghiasi dinding malahan berfungsi dari sudut pengaliran pengudaran yang bagus. Antara bangunan yang masih menggunakan teknik anyaman ini adalah Istana Lama Negeri Perak dan Masjid Lama Kg Kuala Dal, Kuala Kangsar. Manakala dari sudut ukiran dinding pula, ia terbahagi kepada dua jenis ukiran iaitu ukiran timbul dan tebus. Seni ukiran ini seringkali ditemui dari senibina rumah-rumah Melayu, antaranya adalah rumah Kutai, Perak. Rumah-rumah ini masih boleh ditemui dan mempunyai keindahan dan keunikan tersendiri. Kini, perubahan pada struktur bangunan menjadikan teknik-teknik hiasan dinding tradisi ini tidak sesuai digunakan. Sebaliknya bangunan-bangunan moden ini telah mengambil inisiatif lain untuk menghiasi dinding. Penambahan hasil seni yang popular pada kurun ke-21, mural diperkenalkan.
