INTEGRASI KURSUS PENGAJIAN ISLAM DENGAN BIOTEKNOLOGI DI UNIVERSITI AWAM (UA) TERPILIH DI MALAYSIA

Abstract

Islamic science encompass the scope of aqidah (dogma), syariah (jurisprudence) and akhlaq (morality) which are the doctrine of Islam, meanwhile biotechnology is a science involves a combination of biology (life and living organism) and technology. Modern biotechnology application nonetheless, creates various issues related to ethics, law and humanity indeed affects religious beliefs and teachings, especially Islam. Integration of the aforementioned sciences eventually, is the best way to solve the arisen issues, so that people manage to understand the importance of biotechnology from Islamic perspective. Hence, this study attempt to discuss the scope of Islamic studies, biotechnology and integration efforts that obtained from qualitative results thru content analysis based on public universities’ study plan, then proceeds to its implications thus, recommends a master plan. The findings show that integration efforts were initiated by three public universities; namely Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), that resulting integration programs at UM are more constant than UniSZA and USIM. Therefore, it is advisable that the Ministry of Education (MOE) through the Department of Higher Education (JPT) and Malaysian Public Universities should enhance improvement of these programs now and then, in fact enlarge the integration programs to other sciences, so to produce multi-disciplinary graduates who are able to meet the needs of current demands, consistent with the National Transformation (TN50) agenda.
