Abstract

This article examines the role of sculpture as a medium for social development and the strengthening of public inclusivity within contemporary society. Grounded in the theoretical frameworks of socially engaged art, participation theory, and the politics of spectatorship, the study highlights how public sculpture functions not merely as an aesthetic object but as a platform for social dialogue, identity formation, and community empowerment. A participatory approach through collaborative artwork development enables people from diverse backgrounds to actively engage in the design and production of sculptures, fostering a sense of ownership, social empathy, and shared responsibility toward public spaces. The article further discusses the social benefits of public sculpture, including the reinforcement of local identity, increased civic participation, social education, and the formation of social capital that contributes to community well-being. In addition, sustainable material innovation- such as the use of recycled materials and low-carbon production techniques is explored as a strategy to support environmental sustainability and public awareness. The proposed implementation methodology emphasizes community engagement, long-term maintenance, and social impact evaluation. Overall, the study argues that public sculpture has the potential to function as an agent of social transformation by strengthening community networks, enhancing societal well-being, and contributing to inclusive and sustainable urban development. The study adopts a qualitative conceptual design based on thematic synthesis of relevant literature and uses the three theoretical perspectives as analytical lenses.
