This study focused on 3D design features in the semi-immersive virtual reality (VR) field, which holds great promise for enhancing the digital learning experience and various aspects of 3D design, such as space, form, line, plane, textures, colour, and value, creating engaging and immersive 3D environments conducive to learning. The study analysed the influence of these features on user engagement by conducting a qualitative content analysis of four semi-immersive VR teaching videos. The findings show that shape, colour, value and texture play separate but interrelated roles in structuring user experience in semi-immersive VR settings. The study emphasizes the need to know and use these 3D design features strategically to produce engaging digital learning experiences in semi-immersive virtual reality.
